Sites & programs that use GPS Visualizer

GPS software (freeware)
- ACME Mapper: A great way to find the coordinates of single points using an interactive Web-based interface.
Also check out ACME's Google Planimeter, which can measure areas using a point-and-click interface.
- Cetus GPS: By Kjeld Jensen. A fantastic and free program for Palm OS that describes itself (and rightly so) as the "Swiss Army Knife of GPS tracking and data collection." Unfortunately, it doesn't do maps (but that's what GPS Visualizer is for).

- cotoGPS: By Thomas Runge. Another free Palm OS application for recording GPS data; includes area calculation functions.

- FlightTrack: By Gautier Taravella. Free 3-D terrain visualization software for Mac OS X (like Wissenbach Map3D, it requires DEM data files); geared mostly toward pilots.

- GPSBabel: By Robert Lipe et al. Claims to "flatten the Tower of Babel that the authors of various programs for manipulating GPS data have imposed upon us," and indeed, it supports MANY file formats and can connect to your Garmin or Magellan device. Available for Windows and Unix, including Mac OS X.

- GPSPhotoLinker: By Jeffrey J. Early. For Mac OS X; will read time-stamped trackpoints and waypoints from a GPX file, and then automatically embed (geotag) the coordinates in the EXIF data of your time-stamped digital photos.

- GPS TrackData: By Lars Jakobsen. A Windows utility for converting Cetus .pdb files to other formats, including DXF (Drawing Interchange Format).

- MyGPS: By Paolo Faure Ragani. A track/waypoint visualizer for Windows, with GPX compatibility and the ability to use scanned maps.

- Wissenbach Map3D: By Dave Wissenbach. A free Windows application for visualizing tracks in 3-D; it requires that you know how to download and manage Digital Elevation Model data files, but the output is very impressive if you know what you're doing.

GPS software (commercial/shareware)
- ExpertGPS: Track analysis/mapping software for Windows.

- GpsGate: Allows you to generate log files from a GPS connected to a PocketPC or Windows laptop, even while the GPS is being used for other applications.

- PathAway: A feature-packed GPS tracking program for Palm OS which supports scanned and downloaded maps.

- RoboGEO: Windows software that uses your GPS tracklogs to georeference your time-stamped digital photos -- latitude and longitude are inserted into the photos' EXIF data.

- TerraBrowser: Mac OS X program for viewing GPX files or live GPS data on USGS topo maps & aerial photos.
